A new letter from David Harris for the 2008 Marching Band Season:

April, 2008

Brass and Woodwind marching band members:

It is time to get ready for another exciting year of marching band for the fall of 2008. Our show will be Pandora’s Box which is written by Key Poulan and has been preformed by many superior bands across the nation. According to Freek mythology, Pandora was given a box by Zeus and told not to open it. However, Pandora opened the box because she was curious. This caused all the evils of mankind to escape from the box. Luckily, Pandora closed the box in time to keep hope. The music will deal with the feelings of curiosity, anger for opening the box, and finally of hope. I am excited to bring this show to Middletown High for next year! As our band has improved with staff in percussion and colorguard, it is now time to bring that kind of help to the woodwinds and brass sections! This makes me very excited about our performances for next year! Who’s the best band in the land: Middletown!

The woodwind specialist is Mr. Kevin van Sickle. He is a saxophonist who performs throughout the state in different groups. He is also known to many of you as he has been the B & B Music salesman serving Middletown. I have had Middletown students take lessons and they have always improved immensely. I am looking forward to having him share his knowledge of woodwinds with our students. Rehearsals for the woodwinds will be: May 19, 4:30-6:00; June 4, 12:30-2:00; June 9, 4:30-6:00; and June 11, 8:30-10:00 am.

The brass specialist is Mr. Chris Vitale. He is a graduate student in music at the University of Delaware and trumpet player. He has marched in drum corps and has been a high school band director in New Jersey. His wealth of experience in marching band and brass playing will be a great addition to our band staff. Rehearsals for the brass are: May 19, 6-7:30; May 29, 6-7:30; June 9, 6-7:30; June 12, 6-7:30.

All woodwind and brass marching band members are expected to attend all rehearsals! As always, a written note from your parent is needed to be excused from rehearsal. I look forward to seeing everyone at these very important rehearsals. This will help us to grow and improve on the great band that we had last year!
